Living Waterscapes
Summer School 2021
A five days educational program (5-10 September 2021): eleven Belgian and international young creatives with different backgrounds and expertise came together to reimagine the future of urban waterscapes in Kortrijk.
Een vijfdaags educatief programma (5 -10 september 2021): elf nationale en internationale jonge creatieven met verschillende achtergronden en expertise kwamen samen om de toekomst van het stedelijke waterlandschap in Kortrijk heruit te vinden.
The educational program was created following closely the structure of a design sprint and with an explicit hands on vocation, whilst focussing on a contemporary pressing issue. The whole cohort was supported across the duration of the project by coaches helping them to develop their ideas and to present them.
Het educatieve programma werd opgezet volgens de structuur van een design sprint en met een expliciete hands-on insteek, terwijl het focuste op een hedendaagse en dwingende problematiek. De groep werd tijdens de volledige duur van het project ondersteund door coaches die hen hielpen om hun ideeën te ontwikkelen en te presenteren.
Moreover, throughout the week, the participants attended a series of inspirational presentations from local innovators and thinkers to broaden their horizons. All the participants had access to state of the art workshops and fablabs to complete their creations: the Industrial Design Center(Howest), the Maaklab (VIVES Hogeschool) and the BUDA::Lab.
Bovendien woonden de deelnemers een reeks inspirerende presentaties bij van lokale innovatieve denkers om hun horizon te verbreden. Alle deelnemers hadden toegang tot ultramoderne werkplaatsen en fablabs om hun creaties te uit te werken: het Industrial Design Center (Howest), het Maaklab (VIVES Hogeschool) en het BUDA::Lab.
Each participant was assigned to a group following a theme: water & citizens’ engagement, water & resources, water & farming. Each group worked closely with a network of partners who have expertise in the themes tackled and are looking for outside the box interventions.
Elke deelnemer werd in een groep ingedeeld volgens een thema: water & burgerparticipatie, water & landbouw, water & grondstoffen. Elke groep werkte nauw samen met een netwerk van partners die expertise hadden in elk thematisch gebied en op zoek zijn naar outside the box interventies.
The ultimate goal of this experience, which was achieved successfully, was to strengthen the links between different creative and entrepreneurial communities in the territory of Kortrijk and to initiate an international network of young practitioners that work on geography-specific issues through design thinking and different creative approaches.
Het uiteindelijke doel van deze ervaring, die met succes werd bekroond, was het versterken van de banden tussen verschillende creatieve en ondernemende op het Kortrijkse grondgebied en het opstarten van een internationaal netwerk van jongeren die willen werken rond geografisch-specifieke kwesties door middel van design thinking en verschillende creatieve methodieken.
